Democracy Prep Public Schools NYC is comprised of 14 high-performing college preparatory K-12 schools across East Harlem, Central Harlem, and the Bronx. We offer specialized programming and are committed to educating our highest need scholars who have IEP/ 504 plans and/or identify as English Language Learners. Our scholars graduate with an Advanced Regents diploma, a higher-level, more rigorous level of diploma that we have seen correlates with higher levels of college persistence. The exams specific to the Advanced Regents Diploma are some of the most rigorous exams that New York state offers, including Common Core Algebra 2, Korean LOTE, and Physics. At most NY schools, only the highest-achieving students take these exams, whereas at our high schools, we expect all of our students to take these exams, and the proficiency rates are still impressively high.

In 2017, Democracy Prep Public Schools received authorization to expand its highly successful education model into Clark County, Nevada. Democracy Prep entered into a partnership with the Andre Agassi College Prep Academy and has transformed the existing school into Democracy Prep at the Agassi Campus, also known as DPAC! Fusing a rigorous instructional program with a full array of arts and athletics offerings, DPAC aims to be the highest performing public school choice for families in Las Vegas. In just two years, DPAC Middle School became one of the only 5-star middle schools in the West Last Vegas area. Our community has more than 1,700 children and DPAC is the only 5-star option in a 5-mile radius. Not to mention, 100% of our graduating seniors are accepted to a four-year college of their choice. Frequently Asked Questions
What are the application requirements?
To apply the parent/ guardian must be a resident of the state of Nevada. The scholar should be between the ages of 5-18 by December of the applying year. Please only apply once per scholar additional applications will be canceled.
How does the lottery work?
We are thrilled that so many families have shown interest in coming to Democracy Prep. Because we have so many interested applicants the admission process required by charter law states that a lottery must be held if there are more student applications to a charter school than seats available. When a family applies for a seat at Democracy Prep Public Schools their application gets submitted into our applicant pool and lottery randomly draws from all applicants for admission.
Does your lottery offer preferences?
These state-approved guidelines establish the following enrollment priorities and allowances (listed in order of priority):
- Applicants with siblings* attending DPAC during the 2020-2021 school year DPAC
- Applicants economically disadvantaged living within or living beyond a two-mile radius of DPAC
- Applicants living within a two-mile radius of DPAC
- Applicants who are a child of a DPAC employee or board member
- All remaining applicants
How is the waitlist managed?
After the lottery is held scholars not initially drawn from the lottery are placed on the waitlist. When a seat becomes available at a school a family will be called in the order of the school’s waitlist. Our waitlist is based on the same preference criteria as our lottery. Our waitlist is constantly moving as families make the decision to admit their scholar into our schools, the siblings of newly admitted scholars advance within the waitlist. Not to mention, families can apply at any point during the enrollment season. If your scholar is not selected from the waitlist, unfortunately, the application does not “roll over” and you would have to reapply for the following school year.
