In order to prove what is possible for public schools in Harlem, Democracy Prep operates its schools on public dollars. However, there are two major barriers to the rapid growth necessary to meet overwhelming parent demand. In order to build more excellent schools at a pace equal to the challenge of reforming public schooling in America, we need external funding for two things traditional public schools do not pay for: private facilities and leadership development.
