Democracy Prep's program is based on exemplary teachers. Teachers with two years of experience in an urban educational setting can earn a base salary that is 10% above the Department of Education scale as well as a comprehensive benefits package with raises for school-wide academic performance and stipends for summer and Saturday teaching, in addition to a performance bonus.
Teachers at Democracy Prep are treated as professionals, provided with all necessary technology (computer, cell-phone, voicemail, email, etc.), appropriate classroom supplies and essential support at all times. Teachers have two hours daily of preparation time and preparation time with subject area colleagues to ensure the opportunity to collaborate, discuss pertinent student issues, and to be used for peer observation. Faculty have at least 14 hours of dedicated preparation time each week. Most importantly, our teachers work closely with colleagues who get great results and are committed to the same mission.
