Democracy Prep is a public charter school in Central Harlem serving 300 of the hardest working scholars in grades 6,7, and 8 anywhere in the world.  Our mission is to prepare responsible citizen-scholars in grades 6-12 for success in the college of their choice and a life of active citizenship with a simple philosophy that guides all that we do:  Work Hard. Go to College. Change the World!

 Our DREAM Team of teachers, scholars, and families has accomplished amazing results in just our first three years by providing a safe, structured, and supportive school environment in which we challenge our students with rigorous academic work for more than nine hours each day. This challenging coursework, master teachers, structured environment, and frequent assessment allow our students to excel in remarkable ways:  Our students make more than 3.5 grade levels of growth in their first year at DPCS, the school is ranked in the top 1% of New York schools, our teachers are selected from more than 4,000 applicants each year, our math scores surpass those of Westchester County, our Debate team competes and wins against the best private schools in the city, our basketball and step teams are some of the best in their leagues, and our students were even chosen as the honored guests at the Harvard University Commencement. 

Democracy Prep has been evaluated to determine that for every one dollar invested in Democracy Prep, the school returns more than $20 to the economy in increased wages, which doesn’t even count the civic leadership roles our students will use to give back to our community after college.  Perhaps the thing that makes Democracy Prep most special is that we have the highest parent, student, and teacher satisfaction of any Charter School Network in New York.
