Democracy Prep is a public charter school in Central Harlem serving 400 of the hardest working scholars in grades 6 through 9. Our mission is to prepare responsible citizen-scholars in grades 6-12 for success in the college of their choice and a life of active citizenship with a simple philosophy that guides all that we do: Work Hard. Go to College. Change the World!

Our DREAM Team of teachers, scholars, and families has accomplished amazing results in just our first three years by providing a safe, structured, and supportive school environment in which we challenge our students with rigorous academic work for more than nine hours each day. This challenging coursework, master teachers, structured environment, and frequent assessment allow our students to excel in remarkable ways: Our students average more than three grade levels of growth in their first year at DPCS, the school is ranked as the top school in Harlem, our teachers are selected from more than 4,000 applicants each year, our math scores surpass those of Westchester County, our Debate team competes and wins against the best private schools in the city, our basketball and step teams are some of the best in their leagues, and our students were even chosen as the honored guests at the Harvard University Commencement.
